A little bit about me for those who don't know: I'm Mac McCormick III, KF4LMT. Although I'm a licensed amateur radio operator I consider myself more of a radio enthusiast who listens more than I transmit. I grew up listening to fire department communications because my father always had a scanner for listening to the FDs where we lived (he was in the Navy, and we moved several times). In the mid 1990s, I developed an interest in amateur radio through a friend and his father and was licensed as KF4LMT. Even though I've since upgraded from a Technician class license to a General class license, I've kept my original callsign because it's become part of my identity. I grew up on and around Navy bases, but I didn't develop an interest in Military Communications until the mid 1990s. This was the time that the internet was exploding, and I credit the use of email and the web for helping me connect with those knowledgeable in the field and helping me learn a lot in a relatively short period of time. Shortly afterwards I also developed an interest in Federal Communications and the use of the internet helped me develop my knowledge there as well.
My radio interest is primarily VHF and UHF, although I did dabble in Amateur Radio HF for a while. My amateur radio interest is essentially rag chew on 2 Meter/70cm analog and DMR. My listening interests lie in Military Communications, Public Safety Communications, Search and Rescue Communications, Federal Communications, and Marine VHF Communications. I also dabble in Railroad Communications.
I'm sometimes introduced to those I don't know as an expert, but that makes me uncomfortable. I'm far from an expert - I just have knowledge of what's around me here in the Coastal Georgia, Lowcounty South Carolina (Beaufort/Charleston), Columbia, SC, and Jacksonville, FL areas. Beyond that, I have very little to offer.
If you're interested in listening to things in the Coastal Georgia area, I hope this blog helps you out.
